Ashley blushed slightly. "Oh, of course!"

"Not you're fault, mate," I said casually. "Not a lot of Yanks know it. they think all we do is 'g'day' and 'crikey, look at that'."

I walked along the path, tugging out of habit at the strap of my busted old messenger bag, and sighed at the streams of normal fun-loving teenagers jostling past me. What I wouldn't give for just one day what they had.
Hearing alot of noise, I turned my head to see what was going on and ran straight into someone I'd never seen before. I held my balance remarkably well and glanced at the unfamiliar face apologetically.
"Christ, sorry about that..."

"Don't worry 'bout it, I'm completely accident prone..." Hmm, cute, Australian, obviously new. It wasn't everyday kids turned up. "So, I'm guessing you're new here?"

"Hey, I'm Nicki," I said grinning. "I was the new kid a while back, so I don't think I've formally met you Ashley. Hi."
So far, so good.
"So did you move here from Australia, Doc?"

Saved by newness.
"Not long ago," I said. "My guardian thinks I need to 'broaden my horizen'," I snorted. "Right."

"Broaden your horizon?" I laughed. "By moving here? Well, good luck then. Day is usually school or school work and the nightlife sucks."

"Figuratively or literally?" I asked. Half joking. Hey, when you're guardians an 800 year old Slayer turned vampire...

I nervously smiled and shrugged. "Who knows with these kids today," I said jokingly.

I looked at him for a moment, trying to decide what to say next. Did he know something I knew? No. Maybe?
"Too true," I said nodding. If I was smart enough, I could think up a test... "Sometimes, I swear the cheerleaders must just be total demons or something in disguise. There's no way they're human beings."
Nice one, Nicola you geek. Very subtle.
