((This is still the story I was writing, but I became stuck. So Rogue suggested I make it a round robin. It's mostly the horrifics of Ash/Jess/Amy in the babysitting buisness. The tweebes are about 3 months old))
The twins were down for their afternoon nap. The quiet did not go unnoticed through out the dojo. Doc and Rogue shared an armchair, eyes closed, and Doc’s arms around Rogue’s waist. Jessy sat on the floor cross-legged. Amy’s head rested in Jessy’s lap. Jessy’s fingers ran lazily through her fiancé’s hair.
Across from them, Ashley laid on her stomach, kicking the floor slightly. Trying to teach Ashley how to play chess seemed like more of a challenge than any of them thought. She had just moved her bishop forward, lining up with Jessy’s king.
“Haha! Boozle!” Jessy shook her head.
“You can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Ashley asked, looking down at the board.
“First off, the bishop can only move diagonal, your thinking of the rook.”
“You mean the castle?”
“It’s also called a rook, and if you did trap my king, your supposed to say ‘Check mate’ not ‘boozle.”
Ashley pouted and moved her piece back. A scream filled the silence and a second one followed shortly. Rogue sighed, stood up, and went to get Lionel and Audrey. Doc right behind her.
~~~
The two parents came back into the room, each cradling and trying to comfort a sniffling Audrey or Lionel. “One of them must have had a bad dream.” Doc thought out loud.
“And the other one woke up from the screaming” Rogue finished his thought. Jessy and Ash started putting the chess pieces up. Ashley sat up on her knees when all the plastic bits were back in the box.
“When was the last time you guys went out?”
“We went patrolling just last night.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Doc and Rogue shared a glance.
“A while I guess.”
“Tell you what. Us three will watch the tweabs, and you guys go out to dinner.” Ash said, picking up the case and putting it up. “That is if you two don’t mind.” Jessy and Amy looked at each other, as if mentally conversing.
“I guess we can.” Ash grinned and took Lionel from Rogue.
