Pg-13. Takes place after Doc and Kayley's convo in 'Too many bloody weapons'. I different ending to it.
“Owwwww,” Doc moaned in pain. “Geez, Kayley, did ya have to hit me that hard?”
“Doc?” Kayley whispered.
“Yeah,” Doc whispered. “I know Francois is a bit forward, but was that really necessary.”
“You...”
“He showed me everything, like always,” Doc said. “He gets his jollies doing that. Kayley, I'm sorry.”
“You don't have anything to be sorry about, Doc,” Kayley said.
“Yes I do,” he said. “I was an idiot. Here I am, asking you to put yourself on the line and...I didn't even realise why you're so eager to help out around here, why you felt the need to prove yourself.”
“I preferred you not knowing,” Kayely said bitterly. “Now you feel the need to make it up to me. If you...”
“Kayley, if I felt the need to make it up to you, I'd buy you a car or a building.”
“I...”
“I wouldn't ask you for a date.”
“Huh?”
“I...was stupid,” Doc whispered. “I shouldn't have tried to convince you to help me with Rogue. But...I shouldn't have ignored myself.”
“Yourself...?” Kayley whispered.
“Well, more like Francois beating me around the back of the head,” Doc admitted with a smile. “The amulet of Karen's wouldn't have worked if there wasn't some attraction there, not as much as it did. I guess...I just didn't realise it til now. I screwed up. Forgive me?”
“Well...” Kayley began. What did she have to loose. “We'll see. After this date.”
“So...you'll give me a chance?”
“Doc, I'd give you all the chances in the world,” Kayley said. “But I don't want to be rebound girl.”
“You won't be,” Doc vowed. “I promise.”
