Disclaimer - Does not belong to me, I'm simply having fun with the characters.
Notes - Differences in the comics: Mina is *not* a vampire, there is no Sawyer and there is no Dorian Gray/Immortal. Buffy will be a Sawyer-like character but no Immortal will be added. It's all present day, even if the clothes may sometimes suggest otherwise.
Prologue.
She hurried along the pier as fast as her garments would allow, the several layers of petticoats billowing as the harsh winds whipped around her small figure. Her slender fingers reached out to tighten the red silk scarf against her pale neck and she pushed herself against the weather.
Her dark eyes fell upon a portly dark haired gentleman leaning against a wooden pillar and she quickened her step to reach him. The call that morning had been extremely unexpected and she wanted her curiosity properly sated before she agreed to anything.
"Mrs Harker?" The man asked as she stood before him. "I assume you're here to meet me."
"It's Miss Murray now, but please call me Mina. My divorce was finalised about half a year ago after Jonathan's book came out."
He smiled sympathetically. "Yes well, personal details aside, we're here for a very grave reason. My boss is a man called M who has called to have a number of extraordinary people gathered together in order to save us all from an early death.... It seems a very ancient evil has been unwittingly released in the deepest of Egypt, and we need the best of the best to go out and stop it before the entire world is destroyed."
Mina allowed the information to process in her brain and she sub conciously drew her scarf tighter around her flesh. If they needed the best of the best then why did they choose her? She hadn't done anything worthy of bearing a task like this.
"But why have you chosen me?"
The still anonymous man chuckled and pulled a cigar case from his pocket. It was dazzlingly silver in the dusk light and Mina spotted a pair of initials before it was pushed back into it's resting place.
"Your bravery in the face of immense danger. The experience you gathered at facing one of history's most, most..." He paused to light his cigar and place it between his lips. "I'm making you uncomfortable but we need all these qualities you have as well as your leadership."
"You want me to round up the troops?"
Another chuckle escaped his lips as well as a wisp of thick gray smoke. He plunged his hand deep into the inside of his coat and brought out a large file bursting with papers and photographs.
"You may have to do some travelling, but I assure you that the world will be grateful."
And as she clutched the folder under her arm, nodding a quick goodbye, a feeling settled over her that she couldn't decide as being good or bad. But whatever the nature of it, it signalled the beginning of the adventure.
